Decided to give this place a try based upon Yelp reviews, looking for good food with local ambiance. We found both in abundance. Crowded and very busy which we expected. There are 10 counter seats and a mixture of two, four, and six tops wedged into the dining area. In true small business form, there is a complete disregard for the maximum occupancy sign, which is exceeded by about 50%, but not a problem.

Expect to wait a bit for a table to open up and when it's your turn, jump in. It will take a bit for it to be cleaned, but not to worry. Great coffee and water comes quickly and you'll wait a bit for one of the very friendly and very busy servers to come take your order. Silverware will come as soon as the next batch comes out of the dishwasher.

We were on our third cup of coffee when our food arrived, but didn't mind as there is enough activity going on to keep your interest. Locals, tourists, foreigners, all were welcome and the servers were adept at communicating with all.

The food was as we expected and hoped for from a busy diner. My wife had the biscuits and gravy and as I had grown up eating canned hash and eggs, I had to give it a try here as I expected the canned stuff instead of some foo foo version. It was just what I hoped for and it was fried to the point it had a little crusty texture to it. I'm more of a West coast hash browns guy and the East coast home fries were my least favorite part of the meal, although for those who like that type I'm sure they'd be just fine. We also shared a piece of the homemade blueberry bread, which seemed like a quarter loaf and was very moist and flavorful.

The prices were fair and if you're looking for a fun and busy place along with a plentiful plate of good food - this is your place.

Wow! We turned around for this place. Little hope  in the wall and the breakfast was amazing.  Portions are ridiculously large for the price. Even
My 6 ft husband with a wooden leg couldn't finish his meal.
Small and cozy, so be patient for a table and your food

Morning breakfast called for a traditional location in Florida and all arrows pointed to Wooden Spoon. It's a yellow building located off the main road. The parking lot is small so careful it's hard to park. As you entere the establishment, its a time machine as you return to 70's counter top dinning experience. The servers are friendly and food is delivered quick at a low price. Our fear was the 5 month old fire engine who was starting to make awkward noises in our vehicle. The question, could he survive and not annoy everyone with his chants which leads to us earning the glances of death by the public. Kids ordered pancakes with eggs, I had sausage omelette and wife ordered eggs/pancakes with oatmeal. The breakfast was warm and ok for a traditional American breakfast. So if you're looking for a quick, low cost meal wooden spoon is the place especially with kids since meal prices are high at the KEYS.

If you go to a 5-star restaurant, you are going to expect 5-star service. However, if you choose to go to a little, run-down restaurant on the side of the road, you owe it to yourself and the establishment to be a little more open-minded. This little diner, with a line of patrons out the door on the side of the Overseas Highway in Marathon, is a place you should expect to seat yourself when a table opens up. There is no list to put down your name or someone to greet you at the door. It's not a place you should go when you're in a rush because they may take long to clear the previous tables dirty dishes and bring you the check. It is what it is. That being said, the staff hustles and the food is truly delicious southern breakfast fare. Open from 5:30 am to 1 pm, this little diner is the perfect breakfast stop if you're in no rush as you head into or out of the keys.

The 6 of us waited quite some time for a large table to open up in the crowded little entrance. Once we sat down, though, service was faster than anticipated. I ordered the two egg breakfast - scrambled eggs with cheese and onion and bacon, potatoes and a biscuit on the side. DEEE-LICIOUS! The eggs were fluffy and seasoned just right. The bacon was crispy, the potatoes bursting with flavor, the biscuit was huge, soft and flaky. My husband ordered the country fried steak & eggs and loved it as well. I am so happy we found this little diamond in the rough.
